Over the Counter Treatments of Hemorrhoids

Various over the counter hemorrhoids treatment  are available from your local pharmacy. Some of these include topical creams, suppositories and even oral medication. If your case of hemorrhoids is mild then one of these hemorrhoids treatments might be for you. But most of these remedies only reduce the symptoms without targeting the underlying cause of the problem. Hemorrhoid creams, ointments and gels are applied directly to the affected area in a thin layer and can be inserted using a finger or pile pipe. Suppositories and foams don’t seem to have much advantage over gels and creams and are applied in much the same way to reduce itching and swelling. Many of these hemorrhoids treatments also contain an anesthetic ingredient to reduce localized pain and burning. Oral hemorrhoids treatments include non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs taken orally to reduce swelling and pain. Aspirin can also be used to reduce the pain but again it is vital to remember that these treatments merely relieve the symptoms and do not target the cause of the problem. If symptoms persist, seek professional medical advice.
